Join a group of ocean lovers, transforming cotton towels into a cosy, comfy poncho - uniquely made by you.

I have LOVED sewing surf ponchos for the past 7 years, trawling opshops and friend's baches for colourful unique towels to live out a new life in poncho form, and now i'm excited to share the process and fun with you so you can DIY your own.

Prep: Bring 3 x towels from home (bath towels or beach towels are both great but similar thickness/weight is ideal). Hand towels make great pockets too.

I have a selection of towel pieces that will be available for you to turn into pockets, hoods sleeves etc. And overlockers at the ready to get those edges looking and feeling profesh.

Bring a sewing machine if you have one, but the room will be set up with machines and all the tools, threads etc we need to create our ponchos.

Location: Social Fabric room, The Historic Village, 17th Ave, Tauranga.

Level: You just have to be able to sew straight :) Some sewing confidence required to get it cut and sewn up in 3 hours.

Such a wonderful class

Such a wonderful class. Sarah’s expertise, skill and patience are second to none. I adore my new towel poncho, which I made from past triathlon finisher race towels. Such a meaningful and crafted memento from my past events. I would 100% recommend this class to anyone.

So much fun!

I had so much fun at the DIY towel poncho workshop! Sarah creates such a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and is the perfect mix of hands-on, supportive, and easy-going. She makes everyone feel comfortable, no matter their skill level.

Every workshop seems to bring together such a lovely group of people, with plenty of laughs, great conversations, and genuine connections along the way. I walked away with a fantastic towel poncho and an even better experience.

I’d absolutely recommend this workshop to anyone looking for a fun, creative Way to spend some time!
